AdBlue® is a colourless and odorless liquid composed of a solution of highly purified urea and demineralized water, used as an additive for Diesel engines with SCR (Selective Catalytic Reduction) technology in order to reduce emissions of nitrogen oxides (NOx).
Operation of AdBlue® is quite simple
The fluid is injected into the exhaust of SCR Diesel engines, where it reacts with exhaust gases and reduces nitrogen oxides in nitrogen and water, which are harmless to the environment. This process of selective catalytic reduction requires the use of a catalyst, which allows the conversion of nitrogen oxides into harmless gases.
To use AdBlue® properly, you need to follow some simple precautions. First, the product must be stored at temperatures between -6 and 25 ºC, in a dry place and protected from direct sunlight.
Adblue® and the environment
The use of AdBlue® has become increasingly common in recent years, due to the increasing attention to the environment and the need to reduce harmful gas emissions.
The adoption of increasingly restrictive regulations by governments around the world has also made the use of AdBlue® an obligatory choice for many commercial vehicle companies. Not only that: thanks to its ease of use and its many ecological qualities, its use is expected to continue to grow in the near future.
Verband der Automobilindustrie (VDA)
The AdBlue® brand is owned and operated by Verband der Automobilindustrie (VDA), the German association of vehicle manufacturers which has established a quality standard in accordance with ISO 22241, to ensure the high quality and compliance with the technical requirements of the SCR systems of vehicles.
VDA is also committed to promoting the use of AdBlue® among vehicle manufacturers, fuel retailers and end consumers through a series of communication and training initiatives.
Last but not least, the German Automobile Industry Association works in partnership with other bodies to promote the adoption of increasingly stringent environmental standards and to ensure maximum sustainability of the automotive industry.
Due to its high quality and its compliance with international guidelines, AdBlue® has become a reference paradigm for reducing harmful gas emissions from Diesel vehicles. Its spread continues to increase, both among producers and users, confirming its increasingly important role in combating air pollution.
